Content area skills are identified and aligned on easy-to-read charts to show the developmental progression of the skills throughout the student's academic career. These charts allow educators to determine the level of a student's key academic skills and the gaps in those skills at a glance.
Horizontal and vertical alignment charts are provided for the essential content area skills in all four academic subject areas as well as for employability. Every binder contains the same charts so that teachers of all levels can see the entire developmental progression of skills.

The authors of the Academic Curriculum Framework have a combined 50 years of experience teaching and providing therapy for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Using the knowledge and skills they have acquired in these varied settings, the authors reviewed the general education standards for all 50 states and distilled them into developmentally appropriate standards for students with moderate to severe intellectual and developmental disabilities. The result is a strongly standards-based product covering all core subject areas in grades K–12+.
