Overview - BASIC PARAGRAPH PRACTICE BINDERS 1 & 2
Give students a foolproof strategy for writing paragraphs with the two binders in this complete writing program.
When faced with a standardized-test prompt, a journal topic, or an essay question, many students have difficulty
deciding what to write, how much to write, and what order to write in. Use the process in this program to help.
STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS
Students use a graphic organizer to write a five-sentence paragraph, including a topic sentence, three detail
sentences, and a concluding sentence. Each sentence goes in its own box so students can be sure to include all
the parts. After completing all steps, students rewrite the five sentences in paragraph form.
“REAL WORLD” TOPICS
Each reproducible binder presents 100 prompts about high-interest topics, including the following:
• Who do you admire?
• Who are your favorite musicians?
• What cities would you like to visit?
• What are your favorite things to wear?
• What foods would you be least likely to try?
• Think about your best friend. Why is he or she your best friend?

"Basic Paragraph Practice 1and 2"
by

The practicality of providing a recipe for writing sentences in a complete paragraph is a wonderful tool for struggling writers. For those students who find it challenging to put their ideas into words, this formula gives them a step by step process to generate a response to a prompt, develop a fine-tuned paragraph, and include a topic sentence and a concluding sentence. This is ideal for beginning writers, but is also appropriate and adaptable for struggling students below level. I have found that my struggling writers really excel when they used this repetitive process and were able to write complete paragraphs in response to test prep questions.
