Overview - UNITED STATES LAW - TEACHER GUIDE
Like the first two programs in the
Living in the United States series,
this complete, easy-to-use program helps middle and high school students understand
the basics of American government. Written by PCI’s Kristina Swann, the
United States Law Student Text and accompanying Teacher’s Binder
can stand alone or serve as a supplement to existing teaching materials.
STUDENT TEXT The full-color, 48-page Student Text features four easy-to-read
chapters that focus on the laws and court systems of the United States. After
reading the Student Text and completing the corresponding worksheets in the
Teacher’s Binder, students will be able to describe the basic structure
and functions of the judicial branch of the U.S. government and the U.S. Supreme
Court; explain the difference between trial courts and courts of appeals; explain
jurisdiction; and describe the trial process and its participants like the plaintiff,
prosecution, defendant, judge, witness, grand jury, and jury. Students will
investigate important Supreme Court cases; learn how the juvenile justice system
works; discover how laws about driving, drugs, and alcohol affect young people;
understand search and seizure laws; and more. “You Decide” sections
in the Student Text allow students to apply the law to “real-life”
situations.
TEACHER’S BINDER The 110-page, reproducible binder has 64 student
worksheets that reinforce each section of the Student Text. Includes true/false,
multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short-answer, word-search, and
crossword-puzzle activities. Also has a quiz for each chapter, a final review
and test, and answer keys.
